When Do You Need a Private Somatic Session?

Group somatic classes are a wonderful way to get to know the method, reconnect with your body, and restore ease of movement. But in some cases, the most effective results come through individual work with a therapist.

Both the Feldenkrais Method and Thomas Hanna Somatics offer gentle, educational approaches, where personal movement habits, patterns of tension, and emotional responses play a key role. A private session allows for deep and precise work, fully tailored to your body.

Who can benefit most from individual sessions?

1. Chronic pain or muscle tension

When pain becomes long-lasting, the body needs gentle, targeted re-education. Private sessions help identify where tension is "stuck" and restore movement through awareness.

2. Post-injury or post-surgery recovery

The healing process requires care and adaptive movement. Somatics helps rebuild trust in the body and avoid compensatory patterns, gradually restoring balance.

3. Asymmetry or movement limitations

If one side of the body moves differently, if turning or walking feels restricted — an individual session can address specific patterns and bring the body back into balance.

4. Anxiety, panic, or deep fatigue

Somatic work with breath, neck, face, and ribcage can gently regulate the nervous system. In a private setting, the pace and focus can be adapted to your current emotional state.
