In this video, I will guide you through a somatic practice (somatic exercise) designed to help you manage stress by releasing tension in the lower part of the body: the lower back, abdomen, pelvic floor, and inner thighs.
Stress, as a scientific term, was introduced by the Canadian researcher Hans Selye. It refers to the "general adaptation syndrome," the body’s response to external environmental factors that helps us survive in a changing world. In response to a threat, whether real or perceived, the body releases stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. These hormones trigger the “fight-or-flight” response, a mechanism common to both humans and animals.
If we do not know how to recover from stress, the stress response remains in our psyche and body as muscle tension. To release this stress response, you can use body-awareness practices (somatic exercises). One such practice is presented in this video.
Share your experience in the comments: What worked for you? What didn’t? Were you able to feel the center of your body—the abdominal muscles, lower back, and pelvic floor? Did you manage to relax during the practice?
